Women's Cup Riders To Race In Dominican Republic

October 14, 2008
Pro Honda Oils Women’s Cup Challenge goes Global

Toronto, Ontario — The ladies of the Pro Honda Oils Women’s cup are taking their show South to the hot and sunny weather of the Dominican Republic on November 29-30.

Ten of the fastest ladies on the asphalt will be crating their bikes and racing equipment and setting out to take part in what will be a double-header format invitational race at the 2.7 km, Autodromo Mobile 1 racing circuit located just outside of Santo Domingo and will be the feature class of the weekend along with a round of the Adomoto Dominican National Superbike Championship.

Attending the event as well will be WCC racing director Ken Piechke. “We are so excited to have a chance to take this amazing show on the road to another market. Hugo Veras of Autodromo Mobil 1 has put a program together to cover the shipping of the racing equipment as well as accommodations for the racers and members of the WCC. We know that Hugo and the fans that attend will be blown away with how well and how hard these girls race and we hope this is only the first of many trips to the DR for the WCC.”

One rider that will not need much practice on the Dominican circuit is WCC expert Vanessa Gareau who has been spending her past few winters racing in the Dominican Republic. “I am absolutely pumped and elated to be able to show the girls the wonderful people and amazing racing that until now I have had to myself. This will only be the beginning of great things to come”

Vanessa has had some good coaching thanks to her fiancé Franklyn Dominguez who has been living and racing a Kawasaki superbike in the Canadian national series and is also the reigning Dominican Superbike Champion.

Newly crowned 2008 WCC Expert champion Marie-Josee Boucher of Montreal, Quebec who is also a pro level racer in the Canadian national series is expected to compete in both WCC races on her Honda CBR 600RR and will also compete in the national Superbike event on her 2008 CBR 1000RR Superbike.

The Pro Honda Women’s Cup Challenge is the only one of it’s kind in the western hemisphere and runs a seven race Canadian series in conjunction with both the Parts Canada National Superbike series and RACE Superseries. Classes consist of both Expert and Novice ranked riders. All competitors race on spec Pirelli tires supplied by Orion Motorsports and must meet horsepower requirements as measured on the Dynojet dyno after the race.

Also attending the event will be Frank Wood, the voice of Moto ST and the Parts Canada Superbike Championship. Frank will be making the trip to do some reporting and maybe a little announcing if his Spanish is up to par.
